The elementary school is actually pretty nice. I work there and never thought I would consider sending my own kids to a title I school, but if it were GES I'd definitely think about it. There are reduced class sizes in K-2, so a max of 18-20 kids compared to 26+ in other places. There is a lot of new technology coming into the building and the new principal is wonderful! There is a small, but active PTA who would love to have more parents involved, but many work multiple jobs. I believe they do school tours, so you could call and ask for one. I don't know much about the MS or HS, but they don't have a great reputation.

It is Title I, but that means smaller classes and more "protected" funding (more paras, etc). Take a tour, look in the classrooms. I wouldn't write it off based on statistics. There are some pretty awesome Title I schools in MCPS, and some pretty crummy "rich" schools too.

The person I know with a child at GES absolutely LOVES it. Definitely go visit before you write off a house and community that you love.
