Ballet attire requires cover up?

Anonymous
Please remember to cover-up when going to and from [Ballet School]; this includes children. It is inappropriate to be seen in public in ballet attire without some sort of cover-up.

Am I wrong in thinking this is a bit prudish, especially for my 4 year old?

YOu know, when you quote you should really post your source. And yes, it is ridiculous. Just ignore it.

But it's okay for people to see them on the stage in the same outfit?

That is strange.

The source is the ballet school e-newsletter. I love the school and don't see the need to subject it to general ridicule, so I edited the name out.

It's from a flyer from the ballet school. I was able to google the phrase and came up with the flyer on the first hit.

I think it's like a bathing suit-- it might be perfectly appropriate at the pool but still warrant a coverup if you are running errands. Not sure that really answers the question about a 4 yr old though....

I don't think it's prudish--I'm guessing it has more to do with respect for the traditions of ballet.

Even if you're just going from class to car, you need to cover up? That does sound excessive to me.

That was my guess as well. I was a martial arts instructor for many years and we asked that students not walk around in full uniform with their rank showing. And black belts were absolutely prohibited from doing so.

Some “gems” I found after googling the quote op posted.

Teenage female dancers are permitted to wear a black skirt ONLY for cover-up for that specific “time” of the month. (Orlando)

Studio Rules and Information
All dancers coming to and going from the studio should wear a cover-up. This is for the protection of the dancer! (Jensen School – CA)

Please, no gossip among the mothers or students in the waiting room regarding any dance business or students. Please keep all subjects of conversations appropriate for the ears of our little dancers.

Absolutely NO conversations of a personal nature, marital issues, etc are appropriate in our waiting area or in the parking lot where they might be overheard by others. Please hold those conversations elsewhere. (Creative Dance – LA)

Please remember to cover-up
when going to and from MYB; this includes childlren.
It is inappropriate to be seen in public in ballet attire without some sort of cover-up. (Maryland Youth Ballet – MD)

These rules promote modesty if you ask me. If you want a daughter to not be prudish take her out of ballet and sign her up for pole dancing.

Oh yeah - there are only two alternatives - slut or virgin - right?

Never said there are only two choices. What is wrong with promoting/supporting modesty?
Anonymous
because your alternative to modesty was pole dancing.
