| I recently interviewed for a position, was flown to interview and told that they have only selected the top four candidates for the job to interview. well, I did receive a very nice email that they are going to pursue other applicants. However, the job has not yet been filled and I would like to be reconsidered. Is it being a nag or a bad idea to send an email to my HR contact asking to be reconsidered? |

I think there's nothing wrong with sending a short, polite email along the lines of:
"Thank you for letting me know. Should the organization's needs change and my candidacy becomes viable, I would look forward to hearing from you." Many thanks, Name |
| It never hurts to try. I've done this twice before but it didn't pan out either time so it may be unlikely to work. But, it can't hurt you--at least it keeps you top of mind if something else comes up at the company at the same time. |
Not the OP, but this is perfect. |
| I wasn't hired the first time I interviewed for my job. For a variety of reasons, they chose someone else (I understood their reasoning). When the second round of applications came out, I reapplied and was hired. You never know. |

Yes, go agressive, it shows drive.
With my work, we had someone practically beg and worked for free as an "intern" for a few months to prove himself. We were blown away by his determination and persistence. He is one of our best employees. He was a great hire, but he was off-putting to some in the company at first, now he has raving fans. |

I would send it to the person that interviewed you. If you send it to HR it may not make it to the people actually making the decision.
