It has been suggested to our rising senior that she should consider Bennington College. I've done some internet research, but would love to hear first (or second) hand about the school.
Thanks! |
I have a good friend who is a professor there. The town of Bennington is absolutely gorgeous, but rather small and remote (about 4 hours from Boston or Burlington, 1 hour to Albany). Vermont is generally not very diverse (racially, socioeconomically, etc.) and is VERY different from DC. The college is very small, as I am sure you know, and very liberal, but I think it probably offers a great education for an independent, somewhat introverted and focused, artsy/creative student who loves nature and can thrive in a very small, somewhat isolated environment. If you daughter is a social butterfly, is looking for some of the more traditional aspects of college (Greek system, athletics, large lectures, etc.), or if she will get cabin fever in a small town (and wants lots of culture or options for stuff to do), it might be better to look for a smaller school in a larger city. |
I also have a friend who is a professor there (maybe the same person?) and agree with PP. I would add that they do have an extended winter break (something like Christmas to Presidents Day) and the kids use that time for internships. So there are opportunities to get out of the small environment. |
Search collegeconfidential.com and collegeprowler.com. |
I remember from my college days it was the most expensive college in America. Not sure if it still has that title or if another college has taken on the dubious honor. |
To 12:49 - I think GW and American like to fight it out for that title these days. |
I have checked the website and did some research i think Benninton college is best for your career. Better to go for part time job after getting admission. You can easily maintain your expenses. |
