I was just going through my 23mo diaper bag, and found a letter from daycare saying that a case of scabies had been confirmed at the center! DH does pick ups and he's at class right now, so I don't know if they said anything to him or not (they better have!).
I'm going to call my pediatrician in the morning, but I was just consulting Dr. Google and am a little freaked, mostly because tomorrow evening I'm supposed to leave w/ my kids for a long weekend at the beach w/ their cousins. If she comes down with it, we can deal w/ treating her here, but I'm a little apprehensive about lumping her in w/ all her cousins for the weekend... Anyone have experience with this? TIA! |
| No experience, but I would call the doc and see if you can get a prescription (if needed) for whatever treatment they recommend, so that you can take the medicine with you just in case. |
| My DD had it when she was 3 years old. We had to get a prescription pesticide cream that we applied to her body and kept on overnight. We had to wash it off in the morning. Afterwards, she was no longer contagious. We had to wash all her bedding and clothes in hot water. We also had to put teddy bears and other plush items that were not washable in a sealed plastic bag and away from her for a number of days until the scabies died. They can't survive away from humans, so they die on their own on those items. Check for a rash with lines connecting the dots. Take her to the ped if you see the rash. If she gets the pesticide cream, she should be okay to be with the cousins for the weekend. Our DD got this the day before her baby sister was born, and we were fine bringing the baby home after the scabies outbreak, so your weekend with the cousins should be fine. |
| Someone's parents are being naughty! |
huh? |
| If you have any Playdoh or such around the house, throw it out. Also, beware of the treatment meds if you could be pregnant. |
"As with lice, scabies can be transmitted through sexual intercourse even if a latex condom is used, because it is transmitted from skin-to-skin at sites other than sex organs." |
| Or someone's older child brought them home from school |
| My DD had them and it was an overnight fix with a prescription cream. I think you would know if something was going on already because they itch. |
| It's an easy cure. Get prescription Elimite cream if your child starts feeling itchy and/or has a line of red bites. |
