Getting to Mt. Pleasant via Route 50 around 7:30a

Traveling from Bowie, is the traffic just unbearable? Any suggested alternate routes? I've tried taking Suitland Pkwy to 395, but getting from the Mass Ave exit over to Mt. Pleasant seemed to take forever (really just 30 minutes). Thanks for any tips!
