Telling your DH the big news!

Anonymous
How, when, and where did you tell your DH you were pregnant? Would love to read about people's happy moments...

(long story short) For me, DH had no clue I was pregnant, but I tested positive (yippee!), but didn't tell him right away because I wanted to be 100% sure (plus I was leaving for a business trip the next day). After my doc. appt. to confirm the home PT, I took the rest of the afternoon off from work and made chicken parm. from scratch which is DH's favorite ( I bought a cream pie for dessert - wink). When DH came home from work he was baffled as to why we were having such a "fancy" dinner especially on a week night. Then I turned to him and told him our prayers had been answered and our dream was going to finally come true. He was flabbergasted and we just held each other and hugged for about 10 minutes. The rest is history.

I still relive that moment in my mind. I even emember exactly where I was standing in the kitchen and the little bit of garlic bread crumbs that my fell on DH's tie as he was munched on a piece of garlic bread as I told him the big news.

Your turn...

Unfortunately, I do not have that kind of patience (which will likely impact my parenting ability We took the test together, but I love your idea and it gave me chills reading the post.

Congratulations!!!!

My husband was away on a business trip when I got the positive on the test. I didn't believe it so I took a second test which was also positive. I took a photo of the 2 positive test strips and emailed the picture to his phone with the caption, "Wish you were here."

I just broke the news to DH for the 2nd time LAST NIGHT!

First time, a little over 2 yrs ago, I had been telling DH that I wanted to buy a video camera when we got pg so we could tape the pg and so on. So, I pulled an article from GH mag that compared different video cameras and kept it in my drawer until the big day arrived. My mom and sister happen to be visiting the day I found out and I wanted to tell DH first, but everyone was in the kitchen getting breakfast. So, I told DH that I was going shopping with my mom & sis and that I thought I should get a video camera. He said several time that we probably should wait b/c their expensive, blah, blah, blah. By the 3rd time I insisted that it was time to buy one he got it and kept saying really, really, really. My mom figured it out when he came over and kept hugging and kissing me.

As for last night, I bought a tshirt that says "I'm the big sister" and have been holdign on to it for a few months. I told DH I wanted to go to dinner and when I went to wash DD's hands before the meal came, I changed her tshirt (was hiding it in the diaper bag) and sent her back to the table to say "daddy - look at my shirt". He almost fell out of the booth picking her up when he figured it out. Again, the "really, really, really...!" The waiter kept looking at us funny when he kept leaning over to kiss me throughout the whole dinner.

DH and I had just started trying, but he knew I hadn't gotten my period yet that month. I had secretly taken 2 pregnancy tests, a week apart, hoping to learn that I was in fact pregnant. Both tests were negative. Knowing how late my period was, DH said he thought I was pregnant; I was sad to tell him that I had already taken two tests and that both were negative. The tests came in a 3-pack, so I told him, "Tomorrow morning I'll take the last one, and if it's negative, I just won't worry about it anymore." So the next morning I woke up around 5:30 am and went to the bathroom. I was shocked to see a plus sign on the stick! I walked quietly back to bed, thinking DH was still asleep, and trying to figure out a clever way to tell him the news. In fact, he was awake and crossing his fingers in anticipation. When I saw that his eyes were open, I just yelled out, "Pregnant!!!" We hugged each other and started jumping up and down on the bed. It's a moment I will never forget. The hardest part was waiting until a decent hour to call our family and share the news!

12:08poster here again - reading pp gave me goosebumps also! How exciting!

I also plan on surprising my mom with the same "i'm the big sister" shirt. She flies in to visit us in a few weeks (it's going to be hard to keep my mouth shut until then). I am going to put the shirt on DD when we go to pick up Grandma and see how long it takes her to figure it out!

The only hard part is it would be nice to tell my dad on father's day like I did with DD#1. My mom/sis already knew father's day was just a few weeks away. I had an u/s at 6.5wks, so I put the picture in a frame and had written "Baby "last-name" on the bottom. My mom called me when he was opening it and I could here him start to cry!
