Infertility Support and Discussion

So I'm 39 and TTC.
My husband and I were trying for a while and having no luck - this was mostly due to his inability to finish. We decided to pursue IF treatment, we went through one IVF, 10 eggs were retrieved, 5 went to 5 day blasts. We transferred two and froze three. I got pregnant but experienced a miscarriage at 8 weeks. We decided to take a couple of months off before we went back to the RE. In this time, my husband seems to have worked out his finishing issue. I started temping on the next cycle and we went on vacation - perfect relaxed timing to TTC, right? Well the chart from this cycle seems to indicate that I didn't ovulate. My pre-O temps were all normal, coverline was 97.5. It looks like I ovulated on day 11. Then I had a two day spike (up around 98.5) and then the temps dropped and have stayed at 97.6/97.7 since then (I'm now 6 days post O). I'm trying not to freak out. What does it mean when you don't ovulate? Is this likely a bigger problem? Or can this happen on occasion? This is the first cycle after my miscarrige, so I'm not sure if it might have something to do with that...or that I'm about 30 lbs overweight. Can anyone help shed some light on this situation? Thanks! |
| I would keep monitoring. It could mean you ovulated, but had a sudden drop in progesterone levels, which is what increases your temperature. |
| If it helps, you might want to try entering your chart information on fertilityfriend.com (basic charting is free). The computer can look at your chart and determine if and when - based on all the factors - you ovulated. It's a computer, so it's not a perfect system, but it might be worth trying. |

Try using an ovulation predictor kit in conjunction with charting. Many things can affect temperatures. I used the ones from early-pregnancy-tests.com and we conceived the first month we used them. Good luck!

| The first couple of cycles after my D&C I did not ovulate. |

OP here:
During this cycle I did chart my temps in Fertility Friend actually. It says I ovulated on day 11. Problem is that the temp only stayed elevated for 2 days - I read that if your temp doesn't stay up than you probably didn't ovulate. True? I also bought a Clear Blue Fertility Monitor and started that this cycle. It was my first time using one and I was a little worried that I wasn't doing it right, but it only gave me low fertility days - I didn't even get one high or peak day. My friend said that happened to her in the first month that she used the monitor too. So needless to say I'm confused.... I'm going to keep charting and see if a pattern emerges, but ultimately I'd like to be able to identify if a problem exists and start work to correct it sooner if I can... |

I know what it's like to feel the clock ticking, but it's often very hard to come to any conclusions based on just one cycle. It is not uncommon to have an annovulatory cycle on occasion.
I'm confused, however, by your trying to "identify if a problem exists." Am I understanding your first post correctly that you ended up doing IVF primarily because of male factor issues? What did the RE say about your hormone levels? Charting, etc., can be very helpful, but the type of diagnostic tests that I presume your RE performed are going to be a much better indicator of whether you have an ovulation problem. |
