If college entry switches to BY, then maybe. So essentially SY switch stays |
|
What happens with college probably wont affect any of the youth leagues that want to change to SY. They've made a choice and will stick with it. MLSN + GA haven't announced anything. If NCAA gives college soccer to US Soccer it will probably be aligned to BY because this is how USM/WNTs + pro clubs are setup. But even this wont change when players graduate HS so SY would still work. However if US Soccer got control of college soccer recruitment would be completely different. ECNL would quickly be iced out. |
Where’s the pot of gold for US soccer in all this? Where do they get the revenue and risk model for subsizing year round travel and training for college kids. year round playing students still need time to take classes and other school commitments. Doesn’t seem like a win on either side really. |
Problem is there are only so many national team slots and soccer is just not popular enough, hence non-revenue generating. |
But yet its happening... https://www.sportsbusinessjournal.com/Articles/2025/06/11/us-soccer-launches-new-committee-to-help-evaluate-ncaa-soccers-future/ |
College soccer essentially doesn't/won't deal in age cutoffs. |
So, they'll only enter in one age group. How does this matter? |
Uh… a committee being created to evaluate the possibility of is a far cry from happening |
Or it makes it even more likely to go SY if college / grad year becomes a better destination. Once you get to u19, birth month doesn’t mean anything anyway. |
"U.S. Soccer set forth an aggressive timeline for the NCS Committee. The group will be called on to publish a "white paper" with recommendations for the both the men’s and women’s college game by the start of the upcoming academic year. Another focus will be to implement potential solutions with interested conferences and colleges during the 2026-27 school year, the U.S. Soccer release said." |
You are so out of touch with what is happening in the US with regard to soccer. And what is happening globally overall. You’re stuck in the 90’s with your frame of reference. |
Arguing with yourself? I think PP would agree, and that was the point they were making. |
This is my question as well. At some point there will have to be significant subsidies to stand a chance. There are 300+ D1 womens soccer programs. Maybe a top 20-30 league would be interesting but nobody wants to see Missouri State Vs Arkansas Pine Bluff. And where does Title 9 fall in all of this? Does it go away if it is no longer housed within the university? I could see legal dynamics tying something like this up for years. Much like the football lawsuit. |
What happened to MLS after Beckham left? A long period of mediocrity and low ratings. You should study history. |
