FCPS budget?

Anonymous
We're moving to the area and trying to decide where to buy. I've been reading a lot about the budget problems in Montgomery County, but haven't seen much about Fairfax and was wondering what the situation is? The public school system where we live currently has experienced significant budget cuts for 4 consecutive years now. I suspect this is the case most everywhere, but thought I'd ask.

Same in Fairfax County. See:

Thanks for the link.

I didn't read everything over, but unless I'm misunderstanding at first glance it appears that FCPS will have a budget increase for next year. Granted it also seems they expect an additional 2000+ students, but any sort of an increase seems positive even if it's an overall decrease after new students are accounted for. Our district is loosing tens of millions from next year's budget regardless of growth.

Just based on what I have read here in the various school forums, it does seem like FCPS has weathered the budget crises a little better than MCPS. We are in FCPS and I have not heard of the class sizes being as large as they seem to be in MCPS.

I did not realize FCPS still had some 1/2 day Ks! I read some of the thread and can understand how maddening it would be for those families for there to be differences in such a primary offering between schools.

The plan had been for all of FCPS to have full day K by now, but the budget woes put the brakes on that plan. I think they now have a plan to roll out full day K to the rest of the district over the next 2 years.

OTOH, I think FCPS still has full time instructional assistants in all K classes (both schools we have been in have this), whereas MCPS does not.
