Is a 30 year old Egg Donor too old? Seeking your feedback and advise

Anonymous
Hello everyone,

Both of the egg donors I am currently considering at GIVF are 30 year old, both are proven donors and they seem to cycle well and have good pregnancy successes.
Just looking for feedback since I assume the younger the better for an egg donor. Do you think it is fine to go with one of these 30 year old donors, or should I keep searching till I find someone in their early 20s. I want to cycle this summer and unfortunately the other two donors I like at GIVF who are 21 and 25 have a longer waitlist.

Would appreciate any feedback and experiences shared on this.
Thanks!

This was a tricky issue for me, because all the donors I liked tended to be older, mostly because they had more life experience and thus seemed more interesting to me. We ended up with a 30 year old donor and I'm nursing my daughter as I type! In general, if they didn't think the donors were good, they wouldn't have them on the list. Can you get a sense of what the stats were for these donor's cycles (numbers of eggs retrieved, fertilized, etc)?

Thanks for your response!
Yes, they clinic says one of them produces 24 eggs on avarage, and the other one 18. But I still need to get the info on fertilized etc.
Also, I am thinking of doing a split cycle, not a 1:1 (because of $$$), so number of eggs retreived/ quality does make a difference for me.

Thanks!

Full disclosure - I am doing IF treatments, but am not doing egg donor yet, so I may not know anything about what I am saying. . .but if you've found a donor you love and everything lines up, I think I'd be inclined to go for a 30 yr old. Honestly, most of my friends didn't have kids until 30 or after and the vast majority had absolutely no problems - since these two are already proven with lots of eggs, seems like it would work out fine - however, again, what do I know

I was 30 when I did my first IVF cycle. I got 17 eggs, ended up with 8 equality embryos, and have twin boys to show for it. Our lower fertilization was probably due to the quality of my husbands sperm. If they have everything you are looking for, I would go for it.

My donor was 29 when I picked her and she may have been 30 by the time we cycled. She was a great donor and I am pg with my second child from that same cycle (first was from fresh cycle and second from FET). Your 30 year old pick sounds like a good one. I say go for it. Good luck.

Thanks for your feedback re: 30 year old donors. I feel better about it know. My girlfriend in Toronto picked a 21 year old as her donor and was worried my 30 year old might be too old. Interestingly, many of the donors at the clinic are 29/30 old.
Thanks again!

Hello everyone,
Need your feedback on following: I have narrowed down my egg donor search to two donors at my clinic here in the DC area ( I decided to do a full fresh cycle). Both donors are similar age and seem to produce about the same amount of eggs (16 on average) during each cycle. My question is the following: one of the ladies has done 2 cycles (resulting in 2 pregnancies), and the other has undergone 7 cycles already, the last one in March, before that in October 2010. Should I be concerned that the latter one might have donor fatigue and might not produce as many/ as good quality eggs during the July cylce with me? Do you think it would be safer to go with the first one who has only done 2 cycles? According to the nurse coordinator, I should not worry about this, but who knows....Let me know what you think, I am aiming for success this time and want to go with the best choice. Let me know if your egg donor might have also donated a few months before you cycled with her and what the results were.

Thanks!
