Does this seem like a weird coincidence?

Anonymous
I am an exploring Unitarian. I randomly ordered a biography of Gandhi last week. Started reading it last night.

Today one of the great thinkers cited in our Unitarian service was Gandhi. First time I think I've heard him mentioned there. (I've been going for about two years.)
Then I pick up a copy of "O" magazine today and one of the quotes is about.... Gandhi.

I don't think I've heard him mentioned at all in years and today, I get three hits. Doesn't that seem a little odd?

OK ladies, mock away!

I'm not going to mock because I believe you have received the answer you sought. I have learned to always pay attention to what some may call a coincidence because there are no coincidences in life.

You might be surprised how many overused inspirational quotes are Ganhdi's.

Be the change you want to see in the world.
A nation's culture resides in the hearts and in the soul of its people.
An eye for an eye makes the whole world blind.

Maybe there is something generally going on culturally that made you decide to get a book on Ghandi. And that same undercurrent made his message popular again and made you take note of the references. Kind of like how people in the same culture/times often have the same reaction to things they think are unique but it is a reaction to the times.

It is a coincidence. Think about when you learn a new fact, or vocabulary word. It seems to pop up e ergs ere. It's just that your more in tune to it nothing more.

Is that why everyone seems to have abandoned "Judge not lest ye be judged" and "Love thy neighbor as thyself": because they became "overused"? That would explain a lot.

Also, the spelling is Gandhi, not Ghandi ot Ganhdi.

LOL well the third "liberal institution" where I picked up "O" was the nail salon. Haven't even looked at one before today in years. I'm usually a "People Magazine" consumer.

After I bought a subaru I started to saw them everywhere! It's just a heightened sense of awareness to a particular cultural phenomena--or you can go with the "sign" thingy.

I think it is a coincidence without particular "weirdness." However, we notice coincidences more when we are open to the object in question at a particular time in our lives. Otherwise, they pass us by. You may have passed three Shell gas stations today, and it meant nothing to you. But right now you are particularly receptive to Gandhi for a particular reason. Examine what that reason is, and try to understand it and perhaps profit by it at a deeper level. Go with it!

I was in Borders the other day and saw a new book on Gandhi (actually a whole shelf display) with his face on it as large as the cover, so I would guess that's part of the buzz now and he's having a resurgence of "popularity".

I don't believe in coincidences.
