End of school year gifts for preschool teachers

Anonymous
Our son (almost 3) is finishing his first year in preschool. We are not from the US, but have learned by now that we are expected to give the preschool teachers something at the end of the school year. We are really happy with the school, but have no clue what is appropriate. Gift card? Bottle of wine? What price range? Any ideas are appreciated!

Parents at our school would collect money for a combined gift--if you have a room parent, you might ask if there will be a group gift before you buy one independently.

If nobody is organizing a combined gift, I usually get a gift card to Target or Barnes and Noble (depends which I think the teacher would like more) and a heart felt, personalized card saying why s/he was such a great teacher to my child. I do $25 gift cards at end-of-year, but that's a very personal decision.

Oh, and now that my son is older and loves to cook, we usually bake some cookies or brownies or other treat to give them as well.

OP here: Thanks a lot, I was thinking of a Barnes and Noble gift card, so will buy those.

Also places like Lakeshore Learning or where they can buy supplies for school that they are already buying (usually with their own money). Teachers also like Target gift cards because its like getting extra cash to spend on anything instead of having to focus in just books or movies.

We do a group gift, but the times the class didn't have that we gave gift cards. Wine is a great gift in my book, but I doubt the teachers are allowed to have alcohol at the school even if it's just there until they can take it home.
