Aftercare programs for Bethesda/Rockville area?

Anonymous
We are new to MCPS and are trying to decide on an aftercare program for the kids for next school year. Any experiences with the YMCA-Arylawn or MCCA (Montgomery Child Care Association)? Or there other programs that might be worth a look?

TIA

Call your school and see which programs are on-site or offer transportation... Bar-T is a big provider..

Rockville Day Care provides after-care at many of the Elementary Schools. We used them and were very happy with the program. Call your school and see what is offered at your building.

In many Bethesda schools Wonders provides after care services.

Unfortunately, our local school doesn't offer anything on-site and the ones with transportation are expensive. The Y is $635/month .... as a member.. for before and aftercare. In some ways the lack of transportation options limits the choices. I saw that Parks and Recs offers truly affordable before/after care but doesn't bus to our school location.

I'm pretty sure all of the Bar-T programs are held at the school, for kids who attend that school. The buses are used mostly for field trips, I think.

My kids go to one of the Rockville Parks & Rec sites. I love, love, love it. It is a great program.

Aftercare at the Y works well for many families and the kids can do many extra curricular activities while there (ie sports classes, dance, music). It also gives you a place for the kids to go on the bazillion days that Montgomery county has a half day or full day off....From what I've experienced they are very careful to make sure kids are accounted for and taken care of. Any group care situation isn't perfect but so far so good.

Hi - Does anyone know how good / bad Wonders aftercare is at North Chevy Chase ES? I am considering signing up for it, but it seems really small. Thanks.

We've had great experience with Wonders. My daughter went to wonders at CCES for one year. The next year we switched her to the program at NCC because it was closer to our house. The people running the program are great, but my daughter wasn't interested in going after a couple of months because she didn't know the NCC kids as well after switching schools to attend the HGC.
