So for all of my adult life thus far (I'm 32), I've had various chin length bob hair cuts. Recently my stylist and I decided to try growing out my hair. It's about 2 inches below my shoulders now and stick straight. One reason I thought I wanted long hair again was so that I had more options for styling, but I don't know what to do with it. Every idea I have ends up looking really young - like I'm in high school or something. I do a low pony tail with a plain black hair tie sometimes. Sometimes I try putting just the sides back - but it feels like a middle school girl look. And don't get me started on headbands!
What do you do with your hair if it's that length? Where do you find accessories that don't look young? Thanks! |
| Don't use accessories. You have to blow dry it to add some volume and shape. Yes, it's a pain. On the weekends I will sometimes wear it in two low ponytails just to keep it out of my face. I use "blonde" elastics by Goody that are the same shade as my hair. Once in awhile I'll used crossed bobby pins on loose hair. Other accessories look juvenile. |
| I use some headbands (nothing embellished), pony tail holders (with beads or small embellishments and plain barrettes. That's about it. I will sometimes put a flower in my hair if on vacation. |

wow - I just had a post today where I wanted to wear a hair flower and I got BASHED for even thinking about it. I am 31 and love wearing flowers in my hair. I either go to ETSY for hair adornments or, found this site last night-
www.polkadotposies.com I also love wearing headbands, but according to the folks on this site, don't wear them to work! For someone in their 20-30's, wearing a flower with your hair in a low ponytail is nice - I do get complements |
| I think a flower or other embellishment in your hair is fine for weekends and time off, but at the office this looks juvenile and undermines your power and authority in the workplace, IMO. |

I'm glad you posted, because I had the same question.
At 50 I'm way too old for hair accessories, and I'll be getting my hair cut shorter the next time. |
| Wearing a flower in your hair is appropriate for the younger professionals. However, I would not suggest a flower on a 50 yo. |
because you wanted to wear it to work with zebra pants (which posters later saw were not what most originally thought) and the hair flower you were looking at was a headband with a zebra print flower meant for an infant. |
| On a weekend, or for a casual office, a small scarf tied around a nape ponytail can look nice. But generally, hair accessories are awful on grown women. Get a good cut in a flattering style, but please leave the scrunchies and banana clips at home. And headbands! |
...And because the headband had sequins on it. Zebra (print? but then actually not print) pants + headband +sequins + zebra flower = not the look you want at the office. |
