Are you able to book a hotel using the government rate for leisure travel? DH is a recent fed. hire and we are wondering if we can do this for an upcoming trip.
No.
|
No way.
|
Depends on the hotel policy, but usually yes.
Yes, you can. You can call the hotel and request it exactly as you stated= Fed rate for personal leisure travel
I'm this PP. I stand corrected. I'd just be clear when booking that it is for leisure travel. |
This is totally legit -- you can find an official ethics opinion on this somewhere -- as long as the rate is available for leisure travel. I've gotten some very good deals this way.
OP here. I called the hotel we are considering and yes, the rate is good for leisure travel. Great deal. MIA here we come!!
The government does not have a problem with this. The hotel policy is what you need to ask about, read any fine print. I've used the fed rate for leisure travel many times and always have to show my government ID but have never been asked about the purpose of my travel.
The only hotel that I've ever seen ask for official travel orders was the one in the Student Union at Indiana University.
Of course you can. It's no different than military getting the military rate when traveling. It has nothing to do with the government at all. It's hotel policy.
Agree - you can totally use it. If not, the hotel will state in their policy but I've never seen one yet that does.
Wow! I never realized this. Will have to try next time.
Yeah, you absolutely can, as long as you are honest that it's for personal travel. I work at DOJ and every year in our ethics class, the lawyers make sure people know that this is allowable.
20:35 here again- forgot to mention that it's at the hotel's discretion to deny it if they want. I've never had a problem with this.
