Best places to donate books, vhs and clothes?

Anonymous
I have a few bags full of extra clothes, about 100 VHS tapes and hundreds of books that I would like to clear out of my condo. I can just take them to the Goodwill but I have a feeling that there has to be other places that would want these items. Any recommendations? I want them to go somewhere where they will be used!

My favorite place to take items like this is Wagging Tails Thrift Store. It's in Rockville on E. Gude Drive. Sales benefit the animal shelter down the road. Closed on Mondays and their hours aren't great if you work 9-5 but it's a great cause (if you live in MoCo).

Great post, OP. Especially after reading about the DCUM moms who shop at Goodwill and sell the stuff on Ebay for a profit. No thanks. Keep the new ideas coming.

I've been taking maternity/baby items to a crisis pregnant center, where I know they'll be given to someone who will use them.

National Center for Children and Families is where I donate stuff.

Not sure where you live, but I donate all my old books to Montgomery County Library's book exchange in Wheaton... and consequently buy all my books from there too.

As an alternative you can consider Freecycling them -- google Freecycle for the network nearest you -- that way you're giving the stuff directly to someone who wants to use it.
