Unfragranced cat litter

Anonymous
We moved the cat box upstairs so our aging cat could get to it more quickly. The problem now is that the entire upper floor smells like cat litter, and the fumes are irritating our eyes/nose. These are the fumes from the litter itself, not cat pee/poo. I'd love to hear about neutral-smelling cat litter brands if you have any info.

Thanks!

If you've got an aging cat he/she may not take to this change, but we love using pine pellet kitty litter. Pine Fresh is one brand name, Petsmart has their own version. It's nice in that it smells like pine, there is no dust, the pellets break down into sawdust, and you can compost the used litter (once the "solids" are removed).

We've been using this since our cats (now 11-12 yrs old) have been kittens, so they're used to it. Not sure how an older cat would adapt to the change. But it couldn't hurt to get a small bag and give it a try. Some folks have had success by mixing the pine litter in with the clay litter and slowly converting to all pine...

Another option is corn litter - World's Best is the brand we use. It is similar to clay litter in texture and clumping.
