WISC results

Anonymous
My DC is taking the test tomorrow, just curious: when do they give us the result(s)

Depends where you are taking it,but we got ours back in four days. You will be very happy you did it. I think it gives some great insights into how your child thinks.

We had it done at GMU. I was not impressed with the interpretration by the grad student. No real insight. Be prepared to do your own digging and analysis.

(FWIW we did this as back up. DC has been accepted into AAP.)

It went OK,, they said they will give the results in a week.
and didn't even tell how she did, when I asked, the lady who took the test said they won't be able to tell how the kid did until they compare the scores with other kids of the same age range.
I was surprised that WISC is also percetile based.

You've got to be kidding.

To explain: your child earned a raw score (# correct) for each subtest. Those raw scores are then plugged into a table for children within a few months of your child's age. The raw score for each subtest is converted into a "scaled score" (range is 1-19) based on that table, and each scaled score also can be given as a percentile (e.g. ss10=50th %ile, ss15=95th %ile). So percentiles are not the same as percent right or percent wrong - it's a number saying your child did better than 50%, or 95%, or whatever, of children in that age group. The scaled scores are then added up and there is another conversion (not age based) to get the "standard scores" (range 60-160, 100 is average) for the index scores and the Full Scale IQ. The standard scores also can be given as a percentile: 100 is the 50th %ile, 130 is the 98th %ile, etc.

Your tester was smart not to give you feedback if she hadn't done the scoring and calculation, because it's hard to know without looking it up how the conversions will come out (unless it's an 8-year-old who got every question right!).

What are the chances on appeal??

Go for it. You had him tested so if you don't send in the appeal you will always wonder what if.Your scores are good and I think he has a good chance. Good luck.
