what to wear: luncheon; must be packable

Anonymous
I am headed out of town for the weekend and I'm trying to figure out what to pack. Hoping the ladies here would be helpful.

I have most of my list decided, but am having trouble with what to wear to a luncheon on Saturday. It will be at a country club, so no jeans, and fairly preppy. Men will be wearing khakis, collared shirts and possibly sport coats. They have it so easy; their attire doesn't really even vary with the weather. Unfortunately, khakis and a collared shirt makes me look at least ten years old and ten pounds heavier than I am, so I can't follow their example.

The weather forecast was 70 and sunny, and I was going to wear a cotton floral skirt, knit top and cardigan with sandals.

The forecast is now calling for 50 degrees with a chance of rain. Would a sweater dress over leggings and boots be too wintery? The sweater dress is so comfy and travels well. It is a cotton and cashmere blend, so it isn't super warm, but it definitely looks like a sweater dress. Other options I'm considering:
* straight (almost skinny) black pants with tunic, flats or flat tall boots
* black jersey wrap dress, cami, tights (flats? flat boots? heeled boots? heels?)
* cream cords, silk or cotton sweater, flats
* grey pencil skirt, sweater, tights, heels

thanks for opinions!

Assuming pants are ok for the place you are going, I vote for the the black pants option with a tunic and flats. Hopefully the tunic is in a cheery spring-ish color, or maybe you can add some fun spring accessories. Even though it may be chilly, it is mid-May, so I think a sweater dress, a sweater or cords would look odd. My second choice would be the wrap dress, but that could look too wintery too and that still leaves you with a dilemma about tights (I think black tights are too wintery for mid-May).

Agree that the sweater dress is too wintery. I'd do #1 or # 2. If you do # 2, do bare legs.

totally agree that you should dress to the season. on cold days i have been wearing fitted or skinny pants in a bright color with a neutral long loose tank (the silk tanks that have been posted on the board would be perfect) and a fitted 3/4 sleeve jacket or a light cardigan with the sleeves rolled up and flats. cute with a long necklace, or to up the prep, pearls.
