Has anyone ever found out teacher placement in previous yr?

Do any public schools provide teacher placement info before August? Even in 'special' circumstances?

These things change up until the last minute--teachers don't even find out who their students will be until two or three days before school starts.

^ not always so. Classes are created during articulation meetings in late May/June. Specific teachers may or may not be assigned the classes, it depends on how the principal chooses to handle it and how solid the allocation is.

OP, I wouldn't bet on there being any chance of finding out in advance, but it wouldn't hurt to call/email the principal if you genuinely have a special circumstance.

what is your 'special' circumstance? One year, I was notified about an incoming kindergartner with autism and that he would be in my class in the fall, because I also have a special ed. background. His parents were made aware that I would be his teacher, and we had the opportuntiy to get together a couple of times over the summer to help ease the transition to K. That would be one circumstance I could see a parent finding out ahead of time, but if it's because you're going on vacation or want to make sure your kid doesn't get the "mean" teacher, I don't think you will be able to.

Yes, I know who my daughter's kindergarten teacher will be next year. She was at the IEP meeting.

Has anyone made a specific request in conjunction with administration of a 504 plan?

Our school has a "no teacher requests" policy, but I have made my preference known to the principal and teachers (the teachers agree with me). However, the principal has been known to ignore parent requests that are for very good reasons.

As an administrator, there's no way I would agree to a teacher's name being in a 504. If that teacher leaves the school for some reason, I'd be out of compliance with federal law.

That doesn't mean that I don't take into consideration requests, and if a child's current team was adamant that a certain teacher was best, I'd try my hardest, unless I had a compelling reason to do the opposite. But it wouldn't go in the actual plan.

I do know who my child's teacher will likely be next year, but there's a specific need that has to be addressed. I worked with principal to discuss the need without specifying any particular teacher. The principal then discussed with me who she thought would be the right teacher to meet that need. Nothing's guaranteed, though, until the card comes in the mail at the end of the summer.

I think most administrators are turned off by parents insisting on a specific teacher by name. Some won't give you that teacher on principle. It's better to simply focus conversations about what your child needs and why and leave the rest alone.
