ECNL moving to school year not calendar

This just opens a door for a league to implement something like SY+30. They will benefit from less issues and questions from parents. Which will make things more efficient. They will also benefit from being able to field teams that guarantee all players will graduate a specific year. Which recruiters will love.

I am not sure what this suggests. That talent gets found regardless of birthdate? If so, I agree with it. If it is trying to suggest that these women would not have been "found" based on their July/August birthdate I wholeheartedly disagree because all of these women were most likely the best player on their teams regardless of structure and most likely were playing up a year or two in the first place.

Actually, it shows nothing - you're talking about ~35-50 people out of everyone playing soccer. Anyone at that level is playing up multiple years/with boys/men etc. Now for the rest of the 99.9999% the debate does matter.

A RAE impact does exist, but there are likely far more than 100, who have a younger b-day but succeeded to play high-level youth and perhaps college later.

A) Multiple organizations have to actually agree that SY+30 is warranted. Will need several meetings with long periods of time between meetings most likely. I give that part of the process a minimum of 6 months and probably much longer than that. If there is not consensus it creates other issues such as open tournaments where some teams will be straight school year and some will be the hybrid school year +30. This is the same reason that GA will go with 8-1 vs staying BY

B) Agreement on structure of grade verification. Multiple governing bodies will need to address this as well. That means meeting after meeting after meeting. Sometimes with long periods of time in between before final vote.

Not saying it SHOULD take that long, saying it will. We are over 6 months out from three governing bodies saying they would go with SY and still not a peep from GA or ECNL (Maybe the US Club covers this but I would like to see ECNL specific announcement).

C) Once you have agreement from 4-5 governing bodies about IF they do want to do SY+30 AND how they should do it then you have the more time consuming part. Each governing body will have to send an edict for the change to their 10,000 various clubs. Then they will inform them how to go about this process. Some clubs it will be easy. Some clubs it will be harder. Some systems are running on Cobal and some are running Python. All will need to be changed to one degree or another OR they will have to set up a new system specifically built for this.

D). Then you have the actual parent involvement part. If you have ever had to chase a parent for $17 from the Applebys team dinner you know that parents will require hand holding and there will be multiple calls and emails and text messages about all of this which takes time away from coaching or administrating other items.

I am not saying it couldn't be done, it clearly could. I just fail to see the Cost Benefit Analysis coming out on the side of the change.

But I, for one, am done discussing. Waste of time. I wish there was a way to bet the outcomes of this happening or GA not moving to 8/1. Then I wouldn't worry about my club fees going up again for 25/26😂

You talk like a know it all but what you're saying doesnt align with reality.

Initially the the BY to SY change was defined as a single 9/1 cutoff date. Then a couple of months later they changed it to 8/1. It just happened. Theres no defined amount of time required and committees needed to make a change. The same thing can happen again with SY+30.

Also, both MLSN + GA haven't made any kind of statement about BY or SY. If they choose to change to SY its almost guaranteed that they do something that makes ECNL look bad. Enter SY+30...

This is the same reason that GA will go with 8-1 vs staying BY

B) Agreement on structure of grade verification. Multiple governing bodies will need to address this as well. That means meeting after meeting after meeting. Sometimes with long periods of time in between before final vote.

C) Once you have agreement from 4-5 governing bodies about IF they do want to do SY+30 AND how they should do it then you have the more time consuming part. Each governing body will have to send an edict for the change to their 10,000 various clubs. Then they will inform them how to go about this process. Some clubs it will be easy. Some clubs it will be harder. Some systems are running on Cobal and some are running Python. All will need to be changed to one degree or another OR they will have to set up a new system specifically built for this.

D). Then you have the actual parent involvement part. If you have ever had to chase a parent for $17 from the Applebys team dinner you know that parents will require hand holding and there will be multiple calls and emails and text messages about all of this which takes time away from coaching or administrating other items.

I am not saying it couldn't be done, it clearly could. I just fail to see the Cost Benefit Analysis coming out on the side of the change.

But I, for one, am done discussing. Waste of time. I wish there was a way to bet the outcomes of this happening or GA not moving to 8/1. Then I wouldn't worry about my club fees going up again for 25/26😂

Thats the point. Changing back to SY is an opportunity to address all issues.

Before Aug birthdays playing down wasnt an issue because everyone involved understood that playing up was how players get noticed by recruiters. Now parents have discovered a loophole in that if your kid was born in Aug you can play with the grade down and be the oldest on the team. Which btw is the initial baby step down the slippery slope of just going GY with 16 year old freshman hold backs.
