school hours for DCPS?

Anonymous
do all schools in DCPS begin and end at the same time? what are the usual begin/end times?

thanks!

Yes. 8:45am-3:15pm are the core hours. Some schools allow you to come to school as early at 8am for breakfast.

do the doors open at 8:30? or 8:45 (provided you are not doing bfast)?
Anonymous
the doors open when they school starts serving breakfast-whether the kids eat or not. At my school that is 8:00am.

it depends on the school - when you say doors open do you mean are you able to drop off?

drop off varies school to school depending on before care / if they have a breakfast program.

Technically the classroom doors don't "open" until 8:40. The AP was snippy this year (at least with me) about not coming into the building past the front desk before 8:30 unless you were eating in the cafeteria. In theory from 8:30-8:40 we read books quietly on the floor in the hallway outside of class. (The book on the floor thing was cute at first, but not always feasible for us.)

Don't be surprised if things seem a little chaotic at first. Logistics in general are kind of crazy for many families at O-A since the two buildings are pretty far apart, the boundary itself is an odd geographic configuration, and we have a lot of OOB families. You'll get lots of sympathy and suggestions on how to handle drop off from other families.

Bienvenidos
