Redistricting away from Williamsburg middle school - Arlington

I heard this is in the making. Any info?

Basically, students that have guaranteed spots in Science Focus would be sent to a middle school other than Williamsburg it would be some school in the southern part of Arlington.

Please, please, please let them not be transfered to my son's school (in S. Arlington - I am a horrible, horrible parent for sending my child there).

If you are talking about Thomas Jefferson middleschool you are right to be concerned. Williamsburg is way better, specially when it comes to discipline issues.

Many of us zoned for ASF are zoned for Swanson Middle School (those of us Key/ASF district are Swanson Middle School) so I have no idea what you are talking about since we weren't supposed to be at Williamsburg Middle School anyways.

Many of us zoned for ASF are zoned for Swanson Middle School (those of us Key/ASF district are Swanson Middle School) so I have no idea what you are talking about since we weren't supposed to be at Williamsburg Middle School anyways.

Key/ASF is zoned to Williamsburg. At least here in my building

Actually, Key/ASF has parts feeding into Williamsburg, Swanson, AND Thomas Jefferson. I have no idea if boundaries are changing though.

Key/ASF is zoned to Williamsburg. At least here in my building

The part of Lyon Village that is Key/ASF is DEFINITELY zoned for Swanson Middle School.

I wouldn't worry about redistricting yet--it hasn't even been discussed, and a committee has not been formed. In fact, a few years ago, APS built a large addition to Swasnon Middle School so Lyon Village students would not be redistricted to TJ. In fact Lyon Village has been assigned to Swanson for middle school since it was built as a junior high in 1939.

Thomas Jefferson Middle School is improving, and has very strong community support especially in Lyon Park and Ashton Heights, communities that feed into the popular neighborhood elem, Long Branch. The principal is very highly regarded, and she helped guide the recent renovation at the school and implement the IB middle years program. While there are still a large number of low-income students, the population is balancing out, especially because of all the upper-middle class kids at Long Branch, Patrick Henry, etc. For parents that like diversity, TJ or perhaps Gunston are the best options in South Arlington.
