Organizing to lobby DC to allow larger class sizes under Phase 2/3

The CDC needs to incorporate the AAP guidance and give updates recommendations that balance risk to adults but acknowledge the benefit to students.

We cannot simply shutter schools for 1-2 years while the rest is worked out. We cannot patiently wait for a vaccine that may be moderately effective and take time to administer. We have to teach our children.

Teachers are very much essential workers.

CNN reports that this is in progress. I sincerely hope that shifts the balance. We need really school to start up again ASAP, especially because we’ll likely need rolling shutdowns especially during flu season.

As an essential federal worker, I am facing unemployment due to the school's decision to distance learn for the first 6 weeks. I am aware that I can invoke FMLA, and have leave to take, but my status is very precarious since I will lead a RIF soon. UGH.

I would like to see DCPS open up for kids with Severe SN (I teach one of these classes) and children of essential workers. We start where the most desperate need is

In DC, federal employees have been classed as essential workers, so this would be... a lot of students.

YY? Any chance you can find a student in your kid's class to pod with? Explain the situation and pay them or provide weekend supervision or something in return?

DC federal employee household here, with several other family members who are also DC-area federal workers. Guess what? We’re not all deemed essential. So no, it wouldn’t be a lot of people. And PP’s idea is a great one. I’d support it.
