Ha ha ha. Everybody was getting Bs and Cs 20+ years ago. Has no relevance to today. |
| People talking about TJ 20 years ago is not helpful. A lot has changed. But private school students and TJ students are very different. TJ is 80% Asian. (If you count India as Asian) |
At the privates it is based on legacy status, family income, how prominent your father's job is, whether you have a sibling already in the school Donating to the school also helps |
What about, I was one of those one-dimensional Asians myself (and happened to have lots of friends just like that too)? |
Self loathing? You do understand that racism is not about someone else’s skin color or look but about the color of one’s own mind, right? |
|
How is self-loathing racism (i.e., "prejudice, discrimination, or antagonism directed against someone of a different race based on the belief that one's own race is superior")?
And also, it doesn't change the fact that I knew many brilliant math/science types through HS team competitions, Chinese School, church groups, etc. and even they would admit to you that they weren't great in the humanities and social sciences (and frankly didn't really care). |
Well our Indian kid got into the big 3 and picked TJ and is very good in humanities (national. recognition) as well as math and science. I And we are quite upper class enough to pay for private tuition and live in NW DC if we wanted to. The fact is none of the big 3 have the 2nd-year university level math, cs, and physical and biological science courses that TJ has. Most of self-possesed and bigoted posters on this forum who call (asian) TJ kids as one-dimensional have no clue what truly deep advanced level math and physical sciences consists of. Also you have no clue about the multidimensional leadership activities the TJ kids are doing in their summers and school time. So please stop the insults, it is really unfair to the wonderful and accomplished kids at TJ who also work very hard. |
Grade inflation at TJ must be rampant today if no one is getting Bs and Cs. |
Dear Asian Kanye West, how does your experience with your contemporaries explain every Asian kid and kids at TJ today is not or does not care about humanities? |
| Dear Reading Comprehension Challenged, when did I ever claim that my experience explained "every Asian kid and kids at TJ today"? |
| Enough with the nerd fight. |
That’s okay, Kanye also doesn’t understand what he says. |
| lots of very insecure private school parents. Your kid couldn’t cut it at TJ, get over it. I’m sure you can buy your way into a prestigious college. |
| It's great, I'm sure, but it is not something many private parents think about, let alone care about. You don't get that and likely never will. |
| The parents that do apply out from our No VA private are not vocal about it. But every year there are some that try to get their kids in- typically the brightest students; the students the private does not want to lose... My friend's daughter got in and found TJ a breath of fresh air in comparison socially and very challenging academically. |
