Does anyone know if the scores are roughly equivalent to IQ scores? Like these would be equivalent to IQ scores in the high 130s?

LOL, I doubt it. My DC scored close to 160 on two of the sections. I don't think DC's IQ is that high. DC is very bright, but not genius level, and 160 would be genius level.

No.
I had my child's IQ tested for other reasons a year before the HGC test, and his WISC-IV scores were significantly lower than his HGC scores. The HGC test is a CoGAT test, not an IQ test. Some questions may be similar but the CoGAT is much more restricted and circumscribed than the full battery of IQ tests. The scoring is not the same, and students will typically score higher on the CoGAT than on the WISC.

Your child is really smart. If you don't mind, could I ask his exact scores?

My son got accepted to Pine Crest. His scores were at the median for Verbal but at 160 for both Quantitative and Nonverbal (I am shocked but not surprised if that makes any sense). I am wondering if they differentiate learning at the HGC. He has been doing middle school math this year.

From this and other HGC theads on DCUM, I am starting to wonder if we are the only ones that are not coming from MCPS. When I went to the test site at the Board of Ed there was a large roomful of students that were in either private school or homeschooled so I thought there would be more accepted. Also, does anyone in the HGCs have an IEP, 504 plan or diagnosis? I haven't heard anything about twice exceptional students at the HGC. Do they accommodate once accepted?

They do not differentiate learning. They are required by law to provide accommodations under an IEP or 504.

How do you know how many people from that room were or were not accepted?

Also, your child will be placed in 5/6 grade math. You probably want to contact the school for an option to that which might not be offered.

My son has a 504 and was accepted to a HGC.

Wow on the double 160s!

My DD got all scores 159, 160, 157. She is a bright girl but not a genius/whiz kid. I don't know much about the test and we did no prep. She mentioned puzzles.

I would say your DD is a hidden genius. Congratulations!
