When you blame binge-drinking, you're simultaneously blaming women (they shouldn't have gotten themselves in that situation) and excusing men (it wasn't them, it was the alcohol). FTN.

Well 3 thing jump out about your response. 1) Most rapes are done by serial rapists, so your rant about teaching "men not to rape" is very stupid. The serial rapist are criminals. By your logical we should teach people not to kill and there will be no killings. 2) The frats are one if the easiest place for underage women(under 21) to drink and sets up conditions that are ideal for predators- control of entry to the frat, alcohol, contents of the drink and situation. So with no alcohol, one would eliminate a big part of means used in the rape. 3) Everyone must take responsablity- this includes women. There are bad people in the world, prepare yourself.

And they should be punished for that. What's your suggestion? Lock them up forever? According to you there's no way to teach them to behave differently. And is that for rape or for every crime? Break the law, go to jail forever?

Busted! I am indeed in favor of teaching people not to kill. I'm not saying there will be no killings. I'm saying that telling people not to get stabbed or shot is not going to end murder.

I do support gun control, so I understand that circumstances can make it easier for crimes to occur. I'm glad you agree with me on that. People who blame victims are often quick to claim that guns don't kill people, people kill people. Point of agreement! Guns are a problem. I don't think we can ban penises or bottles, however.

Frats are havens for drunkenness, racism, rape, and hazing. Definitely in favor of getting rid of them. Another point of agreement!

Part of the article addresses the fact that women often blame other women to distance themselves from the possibility they could ever be raped themselves. UVA needs to get real. I think the problem is that men are treated as golden and the women are treated as second class citizens.

This article is seriously one of the most horrible things I have ever read. If any of my kids got into UVA tomorrow, I would rather they go to JC than go there. I will not pay my hard-earned dollars for them to go to some rape party disguised as a university. I have heard terrible things about this school for years. I know people that are minorities that attended UVA and had to deal with the racism there and accepted this as business as usual since it was UVA. Seriously, I am going to save for years in a 529 so I can send my kid to this place??? Really?? I know these crimes happen at schools besides UVA. But, the true test of character is how someone/thing deals with trauma and terrible events, aside from the terrible event itself. Hearing a women is gang raped by 7 should receive a shocked reaction first, before any analysis, judgment, etc. How does someone hear this and not immediately get sick? These folks are acting like this is another Friday night at UVA... So, that tells me that this type of behavior is as much a part of their culture as the beautiful TJ designed buildings, etc. Oh, and UVA prides itself on being so classy with its "ties and pearls" at the football games tradition. Good times, UVA. You keep up that school spirit.

Seriously, I am going to spend all my time desperately trying to make sure my kid goes to the right elementary and high schools and is testing well and is doing the right extra-curric activities so they can get into a good college? Also, there is this whole "southern" thing (or maybe it's a Virginia thing) about preserving ones reputation and having this pristine image. I went to a school not unlike UVA in sports and academics, only it was in California. I also went to frat parties, etc. Saw some crazy stuff, but NOTHING like what was in the RS article. Here's the thing - if I or anyone else ever showed up at my friends' doors bloodied and said I was raped by 7 people, there is not one person I know who wouldn't have rushed me to the hospital. NOBODY would have said anything about preserving my reputation, because it would not have occurred to us... Someone is all bloodied and says they were raped by 7 people and this is the first thing that comes to mind??? What kind of value system is this school pushing??? Or, maybe its the families that send their kids to this school? Do people really value reputation so much they will be raped and beaten for it? I think animals in the jungle have higher moral standards than that....

The saddest and most tragic line of the entire interview is that last line - where she blames herself for her bad judgement in going to party, like it's her fault that she was assaulted. That made me cry because it is so unfair.
