At what age, did you turn your carseat forward?

Remember those station wagons from the 1980s with the third row of seats that faced backward? How come cars are not made like that anymore if RF is safer .( Yes, this is a serious question)

I was also wondering why they aren't making cars with RF seats, or seats that can be positioned RF or FF....seems like it would be a good idea...

That is a great question. We had one of those station wagons when I was a kid. We also had a van at one point with swivel captains seats in the second row - you could use a FF seat but swivel the seat to face the back! IF RF for everyone actually is significantly safer I am sure auto companies will start doing backwards seats again...kids will love it!

I always sit RF if there is the chance. Limo, etc. It's way safer.
I sit that way on the train, too.

Because they wanted to stop giving kids such an easy opportunity to make rude gestures and faces at the driver behind them.

(Or was that just my sisters and me?)

I turned my daughter around 4 years 3 months she was getting close to the 45lb weight limit of the radian..she never once complained about her legs and ironically enough now that she is forward facing she crosses her legs as she told me she doesnt like her legs dangling down.

my 2 and a half year old is sitll rearfacing and will be till he is at least (hopefully) 4 years old

It was just your sisters and you, because that kind of behavior is obnoxious.

I rear-faced my son until he was 15 years old. I got bigger custom car-seats off of etsy. Safety first, people!!!!!

We actually bought a new car because we could find exactly zero information on how safe those rear-facing seats in our E-Class were. After we established that not a single booster allows itself to be used rear facing, we felt like we couldn't responsibly carpool using the jump seats and bought an SUV instead. I even asked DCUM how to find safety info but nobody responded.

Is it safer then to put a car seat forward facing in a rear-facing seat? (This is a serious question too)

I'm not 100% sure what you mean by this. Do you mean using a true booster seat rear-facing, or do you mean a 3-in-1 seat that eventually turns into a booster? If it's the latter, the Diono Radian is one such seat. While it can't be used as a booster rear facing, it is one seat that can be used rear-facing, forward-facing with a harness, and then forward-facing as a high-backed booster.

No, she means whether it's safe to use a carseat/booster rated for FF in a RF automobile seat. OP, that's a really good question. Did you ever try asking over at car-seat.org?

One year when she grew out of her infant seat. But there is good reason to continue RF - my friend had a link to some scary crash test video that clearly shows how much better RF is in most accidents. We should all be riding around like that!
