You colonizers move to this area and do not accept the culture or even have the decency to respect generational traditions..

Yet, you boast and brag about living in this beautiful city that is still and forever will be Chocolate City..

White flight , that’s all it is

Listen, you don’t have to LIKE gogo or the true essence (no pun intended) of our culture but you will RESPECT IT

Let me break it down to you how respect our culture by TRYING to degrade,
You’ll continue to make smart asinine remarks because your cultural range is obtuse yet and still you’ll never belong here and you know it

DC isn’t just a place to live and a status for us natives, unlike you transplants

It’s our culture, irs gogo hearing these bands hit a pocket, taking pictures at the booth, saying whhhhereeee y’all from?!!!!, crabs with the special dip, mumbo suace on everything, respecting Marion Berry, loving/hate our Redskins, our swag, our way we know how to coshift...

We are in these high profile positions just like the transplants and some of y’all will never understand what it means to really be apart of dc

I grew up in the city, corporate law chic here .. that will forever love her some rare essence, back, UCB. TCB

Because I can like unseason food with mayo just like I love me some Mumbo sauce

I vote we close the thread on that last post. Well put PP.

Sorry, but mumbo sauce was originally from Chicago. I guess that leaves D.C. with just go go.

Loved the quote in the Post yesterday. "There are Washingtoians. And there are people who have never heard of go-go." it's not a knock. But if you grew up here, you'd understand.

I didn’t grow up here and I understand. Hoochie Man is always in my rotation. I went to an HBCU and was introduced to it there.

Except that no one on earth can name a single go-go artist except Chuck Brown.

Rare Essence and Experience Unlimited are two legendary go-go bands. You aren’t from DC so you should just shut it.

I’m glad to not be from a place that claims go-go music and mambo sauce as its cultural touchstones.

+ a million

Where are you from and what do they claim as touchstones? Mayonnaise?

Who are you? A white lefty hypocrite living in a white neighborhood who is trying to score politically correct points by pretending to like go go music and Mumbo sauce?

I'm a white lefty living in a fully integrated neighborhood in the exurbs- PWilli Co baby. My neighbors are AA, Dominican, Mexican, and white folks like me. My kid is one of the few blondes in his whole school. Maybe STFU and accept not everyone is an uptight douche like you

Yeah, because you sound great.

I contain multitudes. I love Ludacris and Purcell equally. I'm DAR from my Grandmother's side but I can hang out at any cookout, quinceanera, Haldi, iftar etc.

But ok I'm sure you are more awesome than me. Say hi to Karen from Ashburn when you see her at Coopershawk.

I am thinking you contain a fair amount of alcohol right now, and a little too much delusion.

Ya Basic. That's a devastating human insult. You are devastated right now.

D.C. popularized it with our takeouts and go-go melodies singing it’s praises. We are keeping it, thanks.

I get that the music is and should be a celebrated part of the culture. I don't think that blasting the music to the street from a mobile phone store qualifies as 'culture'. Two different things.

I don’t think anyone cares enough to take it from you.

I guess you have to take “culture” where you can get it in D.C.
