Sidwell vs GDS upper school

"campus envy" is the "penis envy" of the DCUM private school locker room. Just ell yourself that size doesn't matter.

Depends. Is it real, or fake?

I think the word the authorities use is "synthetic"

With the exception of GDS (and perhaps Sidwell) the elite private schools of this area are sitting on real estate gold mines. I was shocked when Georgetown Prep leased less than four acres of a corner of the Prep campus for $888 million over the course of the 99-year lease. That deal (which affected less than 5% of the Prep campus allowed Prep to build a $23 million athletic center. If campus open space isn’t important (as some seem to think), but don’t these schools just sell the open space to bolster the endowment and retreat to a micro campus model like GDS? Unthinkable most would say – but why? What is it about a spacious campus that justifies foregoing the money that could be raised from the land? Prep didn’t even have to sell the land – they leased it.

"micro campus model?"

Despite the name, Green Acres also has what would be considered a "micro-campus," but maybe you were trying to make a joke. Even so, little Green Acres school has a bigger "campus" than GDS - 15 acres.

The coed aspect of Sidwell impacts the boys much more than the girls. IMHO Sidwell has the feel/vibe of a girls school. The girls compete against elite girl athletes in the ISL and the school has a very soft (some might say emasculated) feel, but the internal competition is a bit "mean girls" like and there is no feeling of brotherhood among the boys. For girls I think Sidwell is comparable to NCS, but for boys the comparison is GDS.

Give me a break. You're just trying to pick a fight, right?

Ah yes, now I see the 14:10 post on this page - http://www.dcurbanmom.com/jforum/posts/list/15/155390.page;jsessionid=38A752326C011DA22DC53EC95B24E81C.dcum2#4245891 - and it's clear some STA goofball is beating his chest. "UnBEARable" indeed.

I found the first couple of pages of this thread quite helpful and wonder if anyone could offer similar evaluations from a more recent perspective. Thanks.
