Do you secretly judge parents by their strollers??

I think people in the D.C. area need to look more at themselves and less at others (and their handbags or strollers). Truly.

Whenever I see a puss face (attempted snobbery), I suspect that they have STRONG issues that they need to address. I don't even bother.

If they knew who they were at all, they wouldn't have to keep up with the Joneses, and would be preoccupied with more important things.

The people I know with money would never deliberately show it.

I've felt like the OP in AdMo or G-town when one of the can't-believe-she-just-had-a-baby-could-your-sunglasses-be-any-bigger?-Moms are there. Nice yoga pants, MILF. I think someone stole my friends' stroller so they could buy a car.

Seems like all my friends with new babies have City Minis. We've got a Graco Metrolite, a Graco DuoGlide tandem, and a crappy umbrella stroller that has been really great for car trips because it frees up space in the trunk.

I liked the way the Graco felt, and I liked the reclining seats, snack tray and big basket, and I wasn't going to spend $500 on a Phil and Ted at the time.
I call the Graco double "the bus" because it's so long but it's good when you have one sleeping infant that needs to recline fully. It fits through any door. But I'm getting rid of it soon because of all things the center part of the seatbelt buckle in the back seat doesn't come up far enough for my growing toddler's chubby legs. Also the wheels rattle if you go faster than a fast walk.
We bought a used MacLaren double and then had to sell it when it wouldn't fit through friend's older building doorways in NW DC (with babies in it anyway.)
I'm leaning towards getting a BOB double because I want to start talking long nature walks and get the kids outdoors. Tell the aggressive cyclists on Beach Drive to watch the hell out.

Is it just me or the majority of people pushing Orbit and Stokke strollers are Asian?

Indians love Graco travel systems!

It's just you. Unless you're posting from Singapore.

Classic DCUM bull.

says the parent who bought the Bug-a-boo, dresses her children in expensive clothes, and throws elaborate birthday parties for her private-schooled kids.

so spending money so your children can have the best you can afford is wrong now?
LOL only on DCUMs...

I think the disagreement comes from assuming more expensive = best...

UB owner here again.
I think you missed all the reasons why we went for the UB instead of the buga. Let's say that again:
I wanted it to fold with the seat on, wheels that won't go flat, easy to fold and throw in the trunk, great sun/weather coverage, peek-a-boo window, accessories included in the price.
The only stroller that fitted all our requirements was the UB (which we bought new). For the price of a CL buga you can easily buy a new UB.
It's not about wanting to be something, it's about being wise and using your money well.

Yes, my Graco Metrolite has all those features too! And the other $400 is now in her college fund.

I think you missed the point.
This is what made us go to UB instead of BB.

If you want, I can tell you why we went UB instead of Graco too

It's interesting how so many PPs claim that the people with expensive things are not actually the people with money. That may be true in some circumstances, but I think it's the exception rather than the rule. In any case, how would you know the financial circumstances of the strangers you see in the street, or even your friends? Why does it make people feel better to think that they are being sensible and have their priorities straight rather than just accepting that some others have more and it's not a crime to show it?

This reminds me a lot of the thread a few months where lots of people were posting things about people who had expensive weddings and ended up divorced. For some reason we find it hard to accept that someone else can have more money and be open about it and still be a balanced, happy human being.

Before the flames come let me say that I've got a nondescript mid-range stroller from a brand nobody's ever heard of.

Anonymous wrote:I'm curious, are you judging me? I have a Phil and Ted Sport with a doubles kit/jump seat. I have a 2 old and an infant and bought it when I was pregnant. I love it. Before that I had an Inglesina Zippy for #1. I think they were both moderately priced and not too flashy.

I think of P&T as a middle-class workhorse kind of stroller. I live on Capitol Hill and there are tons of them, usually pushed by moms wearing LL Bean type clothes and Danskos. (Not that there's anything wrong with that.)

I think it's the rule, rather than the exception. This is why credit card debt is so rampant in our country.

For more info on this subject, read "The Millionaire Next Door" - it explains how smart rich people really spend their money. They are more likely to be driving Hondas than BMWs, and to use Gracos rather than Bugaboos.

Not the same kind of snobbery, but I do sometimes judge the color choices some make (garish patterns, sickly shades, something that will look dirty right away). Doesn't bother me that you want something that color/style, but I might *internally* comment that it's hideous. Just being honest.
