For a rising college junior, lifeguarding is not a “real” summer job/internship, right?

To summarize this thread:

It’s nbd she’s chillaxing as a hometown lifeguard all summer because it’s a challenging economy and it confers she tried really hard and didn’t land a real internship (even though she didn’t try).

DCUM used to be full of sharp parents with high-drive kids. Now it’s full of unethical proles with unambitious kids projecting their mediocrity.

This is precisely why college kids need to be beefing up their resumes - now. Posters on here reminiscing about their fun summers at the pool or day camp 30 years ago, have no clue how important it is to use college summers strategically, in order to be competitive upon graduation. If lifeguarding is the only option- then by all means keep the job. But she should be doing something else in her prospective career field.

Yes. It is very important and needs to start the summer after sophomore year at the latest. That is how you can be more competitive for the summer after junior year which in turn helps for jobs.

This is what College Confidential turned into; a clique of a couple dozen lonely boomers spamming the same useless crap all day. Since CC became a ghost town, that clique of shut-ins migrated here and ruined DCUM. Look at DCUM college threads in 2011-2016 compared to now. It’s night and day.
