70% of WMATA bus riders don't pay

Anonymous
Buses are already free. Everyone in DC knows that you can just get on without paying because the driver won't stop you. It's just that certain people are choosing to pay, and often it's because the employer is subsidizing the payment anyway. If there was no metro subsidy, then no one would pay the fare.

+1. The only reason I tap my card is because my job covers my metro fare.

The attackers lack the necessary emotional regulation. We need more wraparound services to help them deal with their anger in a positive way.

This is true! We have to be aware that broken families, lead poisoning, access to poor quality food, not enough learning resources ... can break any hueman... and their emotional and mental state is likely to suffer.

Busses should be FREE !!!

Socialism never works. Clearly you lacked sufficient educational resources.

At least WMATA collects those. The morons in Alexandria made the DASH bus free so now we subsidize employers who offer transit benefits instead of the other way around.

I don't get a metro subsidy and I'm pay the fare. Because I'm supposed to. What is wrong with you people?

You’re the only one. Thank you for your contribution.

My job doesn’t cover my fare (I have metro funding taken out pre-tax, but it’s my money). I pay for bus rides because it’s the right thing to do. If other people don’t pay, that’s not really my business.

Alexandria is still trying to figure out how to pay for it. The federal and state grants are running out.

Actually we just need ez pass for humans. An implantable chip that is automatically scanned when you get on the bus and then your credit card gets charged. Just like ez pass.

Yes the average dc bus non payer is an idiot lie this

Buses should be free - it would be better for everyone. Buses would be faster (speeding things up for both bus riders and nearby cars) if they did not have to stop longer for people to pay fares.

+1 You can't make this kind of stupidity up.

We're also paying for school busses when the kids are using the free dash. Pick one, fund one.

Metro plans to have operators quote the fare to ride the bus as a reminder to riders to pay. But the union worries it could lead to bus operators getting involved in altercations.

Might as well make it free at this point if few customers are paying.

If the union's worried about it, then put undercover metro police on the buses with the highest numbers of violators. If there's an altercation, police deals with it. Do that for the first few months of rollout and get the troublemakers sorted out.

Like the Dulles Toll road which was supposed to be free years ago after tolls paid for it. Ever gonna happen. Government never relinquishes control.

It's ridiculous. Kids should get themselves to school.

It would be cancelled within a week for being “racist.”
