Chicago shakes the faux confidence of midwits. Midwits galore at low ranked Ivies (~ 75% of them ) Yet we have asinine conversations of High school grades ( hyper inflated) and other Holistic crap. How many times have we seen a true 1300 SAT kid with 1550 score? Midwit anxiety running amuck!! |
Risk aversion is taking silly pol sci at Brown and have fun for 4 years |
In other words, these students overestimated themselves, didn't make the wise choice. It's all on them or their parents. |
YES. Chicago is a top school. Full stop. |
|
In many private high schools , the teacher often gives the student an A upon request, persuasion or worse threats by the overbearing parents. Since a princely sum is spent by the parents on their kids’ education, oftentimes the relationship with the teacher is like that of employer- employee.
|
Since high school assessment is suspect, perhaps Uchicago does its own assessment via essays. Call it the Chicago exam. And they flunk you even you had good stats that cannot be taken seriously in today’s environment |
The middle is around 3.9 (weighted GPA). |
Which well-regarded DMV private uses weighted GPA? Could you please just tell us which school is it? We are all dying to send DCs to one where middle of the pack goes to Dartmouth, Cornell and UPenn. |
The median of the (weighted) GPA distribution at our school is around 3.9. Only last year, there were 4 kids with 3.8-3.9 going to UPenn (2), Dartmouth (1) and Cornell (1). Not athletes or legacies. It’s all on Scoir/Naviance. |
Is this Holton? What you conveniently didn't mention is that all 4 of these girls were URM and Holton was very good at getting them the College Board "National African American scholar" or national hispanic scholar" recognitions to get this point across to admissions departments. |
| Chicago is Nerdcentral. Nerds are always publicly ridiculed and privately envied. No difference on this board. The poster who keeps driving home the point that “Georgetown is better than Chicago” typifies that approach. |
Are you sure these are helpful? Race is not a factor anymore. |
To be fair, MIT CMU Hopkins are super nerdy too. The difference resides in the admission process hence what kind of students gets in. MIT in particular doesn't play any game at all. Not only it's not binding, it's also not restrictive. Skyrocketing yield rate. |
Yes, they are and yes, it is. |
Well it mysteriously was last year when all these kids with mid grades were admitted to Ivies and the are all URM. |
