Lexington is lovely and I also like the view from the Parade Ground at VMI.

VMI looks like a got dang prison.

Pretty much the yin and yang of architecture in one town (literally across the "fence"). W&L - classic Georgian architecture. Colonnade is on the National Historic registration list. VMI next door.... neo-Gothic.

When I first came to Lex way back when I commented to the driver that I never realized there was a state prison in Lexington.......

Faux Princeton? Check out the real thing, not some cancer school funded by death sticks.

You know Princeton is modeled after Oxford and Cambridge right?

If you want authentic, you have to go to Europe.

DP. Even so, Princeton has a style than Duke lacks, perhaps because Nassau Hall once served as the U.S. Capitol and the town is historic as well. Duke is more obviously a copy of something else, and Durham was a tobacco town.

And almost every picture of Duke seems to be the Duke Chapel, whereas pictures of Princeton highlight any number of the buildings on campus.

Almost every photo of Princeton is Blair Hall

Agreed. Our DC preferred it to UCSB in terms of vibes and beauty. UC Santa Barbara is directly on a beach (whereas SLO is 10-ish minutes from multiple beaches) but UCSB just seemed more dreary in terms of student vibes/architecture. SLO is so much more green!

Nope. Do a search for the campus and it will pull up lots of pictures of Nassau Hall, Holder Hall, East Pyne, Whig/Clio, Firestone Library, McCosh Hall, and others in addition to Blair Arch.

Duke is nice, especially in the spring. It just doesn’t wow me the same way. People mostly pay attention to West Campus and the Duke Chapel. Virginia Tech and Washington U also have a lot of nice Gothic buildings.

I love the archways at VT.

The cute chunky squirrels are actually impressive.

Duke has that ugly campus they never show on tours… they kinda fool you into thinking the pretty campus is how it all looks, but nope

Perhaps the campus architecture is a bit 70s, but the Pacific Ocean and beach location of UCSB is beyond compare. My kid is loving it there.

That isn't unique to Duke. Not all of UVA looks like the Lawn. Not all of Michigan looks like the law school. Not all of UW looks like the Quad when the cherry trees are in bloom.

No one has named Berry, which often comes up on these lists.

Both Princeton and Duke should completely prostrate themselves before Cambridge and Oxford.
