White House Asks Colleges to Sign Sweeping Agreement

Wouldn't a testing requirement come into play for next cycle? I have never seen a school change the policy mid-cycle. If a schools signs and announce they are going test required next year, that would be sufficient.

Better put, I can't imagine the Trump administration “going after” schools who have signed their agreement. Rather, they will be promoting them.

All colleges need to band together NOW and agree that nobody will sign - and issue a letter to that effect. This is what the law firms should have done from the outset.

I don’t know why the strict gender categories matter to anyone. I have kids in college. I was a kid in college. How does it impact students at all if .04% of applicants check a box other than male or female. Live free or die etc etc

This page has been lighting up. This post is only a few hours old and it's a working day yet already hundreds of comments. This is big bad news for all parents and Americans IMO!

Not a working day for most Feds. And many schools closed for the Jewish holiday so parents are home.

The compact asks universities to ensure a “vibrant marketplace of ideas on campus” and to bar employees from expressing political views on behalf of their employer, unless the matter affects the school. It seeks to create a more-welcoming environment for conservatives, asking colleges to make governance changes and abolish departments that “purposefully punish, belittle, and even spark violence against conservative ideas.”

Free and academic speech implications are awful.

I don’t see how you aren’t able to express your political views currently. It’s like the canonical tenure thing that you get grumpy and start critiquing your area study for being too progressive.

Also why can’t conservatives accept that they’re overwhelmingly career oriented minds aren’t compatible with a job that requires you to spend your first 6-7 years out of undergrad slaving 60-90 hours of work a week with $30-50k. I’m not convinced there are that many conservatives who would become professors, even if many of them could.

Yeah, they’ll keep complaining about the “feminization” of K-12 education, too, but I doubt many conservatives are urging their sons to pursue a career in education.

This is the kind of micromanaging that makes people incessantly complain about their bosses. Why can't he focus on the big picture?

The president of the United States probably couldn't get over a 30% percentile SAT or ACT score, so HTH is he to tell colleges to rescind test-option.

Also, UO has no tuition increases for 5 years -- Go Ducks!

America would vomit with contempt if our president was a Rhodes scholar, had a PhD, or was generally a successful individual in the fields of law or public policy. People here are extraordinarily dumb and everyone has their pet theory on how society ought be organized.

The conspiratorial, anti-intellectual aspect of our culture is easily the worst part of being American.

It is the free expression of over racism and other -ism without reprucussion that is the problem. If there is a professor who is openly hostile to, say, asians, or blacks, and expression that opinion, why should students of those ethnicities feel safe or like they will get a fair shot in that class?

This. One professor explained it that if a student says something blatantly false in class, the professor cannot challenge it unless they want to face repercussions. Totally asinine. What is the point of college then? I think all MAGA should get free tuition at MAGA. Honestly, what's the use of homeschooling your kids and then putting them through college? Why can't they just homeschool college?

MAGA should get free tuition at **Liberty**

I think this means anything they deem as a difficult science though last I checked, Math isn’t a science at all.

Guess everyone will double major in Math even if you are just getting Cs.

That's only for Yale, Princeton, MIT, Stanford, and Harvard.

Trump and MAGA are so angry, so vindictive, so nasty. He is not trying to make America great again. He is just trying to make the other side miserable.

I am a broken record but I will say it again. There were a lot of problems in this country. DEI was overboard. Schools went to far policing thought. But this is not the solution. And anyone who thinks so is a brainwashed moron. The fact that tens of millions of Americans think that this is OK is truly scary.

Can we just secede and be done with it? Unfortunately Trump would see that as "losing" so would never let it happen. Despite being the biggest loser out there. And anyone who is OK with him is also a loser. He is a truly pathetic child. He can rot in hell.

Exactly. They have lots of options to choose from:
Grove city
Bob jones
Liberty
Many more.

Focus on going to those.
However, apparently Baron and cobra Kai want to be like the cool kids. Well, I guess this is what trump will go to make their college dreams come true.

The “free tuition for hard science majors” rule only applies if the endowment is over a certain size.

At less wealthy schools it would produce a very troubling effect, where most of the class is trying to major in hard sciences and the professors are required to fail a certain number or the college will be in the red. Weed-out courses on steroids.
