Delta CEO Ed Bastian leaves CBS's Gayle King in a state of shock after he defends the Trump administration's planned changes to the FAA:

"The cuts do not affect us. I've been in close communication with the Secretary of Transportation. I understand that the, the cuts at this time are something that are raising questions, but the reality is there's over 50,000 people that work at the FAA. And the cuts, I understand, were 300 people, and they were in non-critical safety functions.

The Trump administration has committed to investing deeply in terms of improving the overall technologies that are used in the air traffic control systems and modernizing the skies. They've committed to hiring additional controllers and investigators, and safety and investigators. So no, I'm not concerned with that at all."

Great - they’ve committed to, but haven’t done anything yet, so, no, I won’t be flying right now.

And as far as “non-critical safety functions”, uh, I think all safety functions are critical and I read that some FAA employees now authorized to speak have said those positions are critical.

Why do people post tweets, usually from right wing accounts like Charlie Kirk, with no commentary, as if the are proof of anything?

Nope. They want you to think that. They want you to stay in this crazy country so you don’t see how people are living in other parts of the world. Nope. I am flying to Croatia and taking puddle hoppers to Turkey this summer and then flying to Berlin and doing a Eurostar tour for a month in the fall. I am not staying in this place. The planes are fine or I die doing something I want to do. Who cares?

For f's sake, there's a near Miss every damn day. I'm supposed to fly in a couple of months and to be honest I'm looking how far it is to drive to Ohio at this point

Nope. Another near miss today.

Flying had already become miserable enough over the past 20 years and now this? Nope.

Two near misses yesterday - one at Midway and one at National.

+1. I don’t know anyone who regular travels who is changing their behavior. Those claiming they won’t fly weren’t going to anyway. My sister hasn’t been on a plane in 10 years.

Pretty sure they just clear the airspace for AF1. They might even use a military base.
