This thread was meant to congratulate ED1 admits to their #1 choice college. So let's do that -- Congrats! πŸŽ‰

Agreed! Congratulations to all!

My 18 year old self still wishes I had gone there.

My 18 yr old self did and it was awesome!

I also got similar feedback to the haters here - I did EA (it wasn't ED then) and so many made comments about how I was crazy to not aim higher. It was my first choice and I was thrilled and done with applications. NEVER did I regret that decision and I landed in the same place in life as everyone else who went to "higher schools". We are all highly educated and successful. It's what you do with your opportunities at college - and I loved every minute and still love my BC community and friends.

The BC haters on here sound like sour grapes. #sad

Congrats to all those admitted! 1000 out of 3200. You should be proud.

They are quite excited and are looking forward to it.

Is it common to make such announcements on social media instead of let's say sending out a message to all those who applied? Is it norm for most colleges and universities to use social media to announce?

I was thinking the same. Maybe any type of protesting is a detractor these days.

I doubt that would be an issue at a Jesuit school like BC.

Although - I will say that BC is not really a school where there are student protests.....they just don't roll that way. They tend to be active in "participating in good" but not so active in "political/topic protesting". This isn't to say they think banning books is a good thing (or other topics to protest about).

This is true if you casually ignore their massive sjp, protesting across campus, and the repeated antisemitic attacks that occurred this past spring.

100% not BC. No protests at all on their campus.

Yes. Keep in mind that any email around this time from a college where a kid has applied tends to induce a lot of stress.

Yes; I think every school to which my child applied did this.
Presumably it is because there are also parents, friends, siblings, teachers, counselors, etc. who feel invested and want to know.

Many have moved to social media for these announcements. Started a few years ago.

BC also sent emails to applicants. Apparently kids these days are known to not check theirs. πŸ€·πŸ»β€β™€οΈ

Does anyone know the percentage of acceptance for deferred candidates at BC? Is it higher than regular acceptance candidates?

After meeting/hearing about 15 or so other freshmen, the one thing that really came across to me was the absolute diversity at every level: majority of the kids are white, but from all over the map literally (country and world), very different socio economic backgrounds, different religions, only one is "very catholic," all in a variety of majors. Basically, no 2 kids seemed the "same". Other threads have touched on the issue that so many of our kids look the same on paper. Just from DS's large circle, it seems to me there's little overlap among them (aside from assuming that they all have course rigor in their high schools). Just my observation from a small sample.

Agree with that. DD graduated from BC this year and college friends are from all over the country and different socio economic backgrounds.

Really any college that isn’t public can get students from all over the US. It isn’t that hard.
