It's not though. There are many many parents that did not even consider Sidwell. It is not considered as elite as you may think it is. For anyone that tends to be preppy or more traditional or conservative it is not really a good fit. |
You don't know a lot of people. |
Your descriptions are outdated but I think your point that these schools are all catering to different audiences is correct. One other factor to consider is those that have a lower school versus those that don’t. Someone who wants all girls and wants to start early will pick Stone Ridge (the only one that starts in Prek) or Holton/NCS 3rd/4th and would never even look at Visi, Madeira etc. |
No, it does not. College acceptances, academics are better at STA. The delusion is strong with Potomac |
I believe that most of the people making a list are Potomac parents, trying to make the school relevant. |
Don't most conservative's believe in "alternative facts?" Outside of the DC region, Sidwell probably has the most recognizable name. |
This is a strange exercise as it is based on nothing more than someone’s feelings. If you send your kid to a school that is the best fit for them they will shine when they apply to college. No cap. |
We have no way of knowing if college acceptances are better at STA because the school/students provide nearly zero transparency. Your word isn’t enough. |
DP. They send out a complete list of where each graduate is going. It is announced. Can't be more transparent than that. In the spirt of being humble, yes you are correct, they are not going to send out a public list of colleges their grads are attending. I can assure you anyone in the know can tell you they had 1/6 kids go to Ivies last year. |
Sorry, NCS and St. Albans are two schools, so they should be #2 and #3. That pushes GDS out of the top 3. |
My point is there’s very little publicly available information about STA’s college matriculations (year to year). As a result, your posts/words/assurances are worthless. Nothing you, or other STA parents, say matters because it cannot be corroborated. Btw, I have daughters so STA’s college admissions are completely irrelevant to me. |
Please. Is that why you spend so much time, on so many threads, criticizing STA for not publicizing matriculation results? For some bizarre reason—despite the fact that you have “daughters”—you’ve got an obsessive curiosity about and/or axe to grind with a boys school. Oh, and WAY too much time on your hands. Stop perseverating. Let it go. |
Nope, I’m a different poster. I’m not sure who you’re referring to, but it sounds like there’s more than one person who thinks you’re stretching the truth about the STA’s college admissions. Are you posting these phantom college matriculations all over DCUM forums? That’s bizarre! It also sounds like you spend so much time on DCUM that you think you can identify people who question STA stats. Pot meet kettle. |
DP. Different poster than above and I can assure you STA kids and families have nothing to prove. If they did they would post a public page. They could post it and boast and brag but they don’t need to do that. I agree with pp something is very off with your posts. I can guess which school your kids are at. You have a real chip on your shoulder. |
Sidwell
2. NCS 3. Potomac/STA. 4. Holton 5. Maret 6. SR and GP 7. Landon 12. Visi and Gonzaga 13. SAES 14. Episcopal 15. St Stephens St Agnes This is the list. You have to pull those girls/boys schools apart, as they aren't close. Sorry, but STA has gone way down hill. The top students are amazing and have top notch college placements, but from the middle on down, they do not come close to Sidwell or NCS. From what I can tell, even Potomac does much better than STA, once you get past those first 30 kids or so. And Landon isn't close to any of those either. Holton is much stronger thank Landon. Landon only places kids as well as they do because of sports, and that day is sunsetting too. I removed the ones that really aren't even in this conversation. |
