They are doing a study of testing policy, legacy admissions, and early decision. Announcement due this spring, I believe. My money is on some sort of test required/test flexible policy. They’ve telegraphed their preference for test scores through comments from the president and the dean of admissions.

Brown is not this gilded carefree campus like the weirdo tiger moms on here envision. If you're a boarding school or big 3 rich teen who will have a network of baked in friends there, sure, try to get in. But for random public school kids with creepy status obsessed parents who've memorized the US News rankings, it is not going to change their life. Most normal people have never even heard of Brown. Even those who know of it, nobody cares. Complete waste of money to those not sitting on mega millions.

I love the fact that it's not a gilded campus. They've put money into making it so that financial aid does not include loans. It's true that the name does not resonate as much as HPY, but it is a great place to go to school and it definitely opened doors for my kid, who is happily launched. Would do it all over again!

Most schools, including those at the very top, don't change the lives of the people, unless they are very good (and lucky). This said, Brown does permit students to cruise through and so increases the changes that you goof off into mediocrity.
