I wish we had cameras that would trigger a photo of cars going 100 mph. Said cars would then be seized. They used to seize (and then sell) cars in California if they were involved in an accident and the driver was uninsured. Not sure this is still the case though. The consequences need to be severe enough to stop the behavior.
Finally this whole case make me wonder what happened to that speeding high school student in the BMW who mowed down those students . |
^^^Does anyone know how this case turned out? Says there was supposed to be a trial last July. |
When will people in the political arena learn that “catch and release” works for fishing but not for the criminal justice system? |

So they talk about the "potential" of the killer but not the potential of thosr he killed? Disgusting. |
+1 |
Yes it is relevant, because: 1) He's one year out of the house, assuming he left at his legal adult age of 18 2) If he lives at home with them, they're even more culpable |
Trial coming up in November, but he is expected to plea and get probation. Criminal is out now on bail and attending college. Just disgusting. |
In Tampa, a speeding teen is serving 24 yrs for killing a mom and her child who was in a stroller. There should be stiff consequences for speeding and injuring, maiming, or killing innocent victims. If the argument is that the young teen's brain hasn't fully developed, then don't give that teen a fast car.

He was acquitted of attempted murder charges. |

Raphael Mayorga has been found not guilty of attempted murder in the first and second degree as well as first-degree assault. He was found guilty of second-degree assault and a dozen other charges. State’s Attorney John McCarthy said Mayorga could face just over 25 years of jail time for what he was found guilty of Friday, and he’ll pursue a vigorous sentence. That’ll happen August 27, and Mayorga will stay in jail until then. |
I hope he serves the full 25 years and never drives again. I hope this officer sues the bejesus out of the family, who allowed this to happen. |
I can almost see that. But I can't understand why he was squirted on first degree assault. If running the officer down and leaving him a double amputee isn't first degree assault, I don't know what is. |
Well, he was in a car, so its basically allowed. 40,000+ get killed by cars every year, and if you punished them all appropriately then the jails would be overflowing. |
