What is the obsession on DCUM with university rankings and were your kid goes to school?

Most people are competitive. Travel around the country & you will find your place in the pecking order based on the size of your boat, ranch, house, muscles, gun collection, net worth, etc. Nobody says a word about the people who spend a fortune just to have the best dog or horse in their state.

But take an interest in your kid getting in the right college, or spend YOUR OWN MONEY to get your kid in the college which will motivate him the most and there will be someone (whose golf clubs & country club membership probably cost as much as a year at Cornell) in your face sneering, “What is WRONG with you superficial social-climbing losers? A bucket of cale has as many calories as a lobster dinner, what difference does it make how it tastes?”
