+1. I haven’t read a single example of her incompetence. Please, list your grievances with receipts to back it up. |
What do you mean by “vision”? Why does School Without Walls need to have a “vision” outside of its stated mission: “School Without Walls will provide every student with a rigorous, college preparatory, humanities program that incorporates global and local resources in an experiential and interdisciplinary methodology to teaching and learning…” If you want something more, then send your child to a private school with your preferred vision. However, you would be wise to save your money by sending your child to Walls (assuming their admitted). Pursue your vision by supplementing their education outside of school. If you expect any institution to fully educate your child, your child will be poorly educated. |
What does this mean. It's math, not history. |
Your turn, tell us what impresses you most about this head. Provide a list of her accomplishments at Walls in the last two years. Tell us how she inspires your DCPS family. |
You first. You’re the one (or part of the chorus) bellyaching about the principal’s incompetence on DCUM. I haven’t shared my opinion of her, one way or the other. Btw, I don’t need any principal to “inspire” me. I need the principal to ensure that my children are receiving a college prep. education. You may be confused about her role. |
| Great, tell us what she does to deliver on Walls' mission. I'm struggling to see what she brings to the role and I've been in several long Zoom meetings with her this fall. Her leadership makes me think of the government of Italy. A long-serving PM leaves in disgrace, probably undeservedly, only to be replaced by a clueless seeming newbie. Meanwhile, the bureaucracy trundles on because it essentially runs itself. |
Math concepts can be taught at a very superficial level or at a deep level. Basic concepts can be applied to more complex problems. It's common for high schools to offer 2 or even 3 levels of the same math class: for example--Algebra 2, Accelerated Algebra 2, Honors Algebra 2. The same concepts are taught in each class but the speed and depth at which the material is taught is vastly different. Honors level classes commonly have exam questions that have never been done before in class or on homework: the expectation is that students will apply concepts "live" in new and harder ways on the tests vs. just replicating what they have done before on homework or what they were taught in lectures. |
YOU FIRST. List your grievances WITH examples. I only see insults being hurled at the principal. |
Hello, Principal! You may not have visited this forum before, but it's common for parents to weigh in with opinions on school progress / Principal performance without giving a lot of specifics. I'm sure it's hard not to take this personally, but it's truly not personal. Community members have opinions and they always will. The best response is to work hard and improve communication with parents. If you do a great job, that's the best you can do. Best, The Welcoming Committee |
As I suspected, you don’t have any examples of her incompetence…just insults and nonspecific complaints. I wonder why…🤔 |
+1 Many students can do a math concept robotically but have no idea what it means and can’t apply it to different iterations. |
I'd share half a dozen examples if you seemed genuinely interested. When I first attended parent meetings she headed up, I was more than happy to give her the benefit of the doubt. Sorry, but she's way out of her depth. DCPS got rid of the last head because he pushed back. I can't picture her doing that. Wish I could share your optimism that Walls hasn't suffered as a result of the leadership change, and won't in the future. |
NO. YOU FIRST. |
| NP but the head of school is just a yes woman for DCPS. But that’s who she works for and that’s what they want in leadership. And all the love for Trogisch on here seems to have forgotten some of the questionable things he did as school leader. |
Of course you don’t have anything substantive to say…just a lot of complaining. If you don’t like Walls, find another school. |
