DCUM:Snarkiness cycles

I notice DCUM can keep chuggin' for many weeks with very little snarkiness and then there are phases like this week and last where no matter what forum I check out I inevitably find some major snarkiness. Is it a full moon? Is it the result of stress from things like raised terror threat, increasing prices and end of school year coming for the kiddos? Has someone gone too long without getting any? It couldn't be seasonal affective disorder causing these people to be so angry and hostile because it's Spring. Anyone else notice snarkiness cyles? Why such nastiness? We are all going to disagree at some point but why name call and be downright rude?

PP..I should come clean and say even my first post has some snarkiness and I'm not perfect. I have been snarky here and there, but some posts are downright hostile.

Yup, and often coincides with general sense of humor failure. Posting gets downright scary.

I've noticed this too...what actually strikes me is the rude comments to actual posters that are completely un-called for. Some snark here and there (and sometimes a LOT of snark) is actually kind of fun to read. But it's when people start making comments like "you are a stupid cow and low-class" because a person uses a certain colloquialism in their speech, or "you are a nightmare to live with, I'm glad I'm not your DH" because someone's marriage dynamic is-gasp-different from their own, that it gets ridiculous. I personally do not understand the joy posters get out of writing these full on attacks. Sarcasm and snark-ok, I get it and dish it out as well. But outright bitchiness? That's not so fun to read and it only serves one purpose...

Yes, well said. I agree. Some snarkiness here and there doesn't bother me so much, but the personal attacks are downright psycho...ooops am I now snarking against the attackers...

My theory is that the worst postings come from a small number of people and that when the obnoxious factor skyrockets it is because these few individuals are going through an active posting phase.

I think you are onto something. One poster cracked me up. She asked an innocent question, a snark got snarky and then the poster said something like "OK you got that out. Good for you. Hope you feel better letting that out. Now could somebody answer my question."

I think it's been a particularly light week of nasty comments. I think there is always snakiness but have not read any crazy fights... Yet

I just tune out the snark/bitchy stuff. It doesn't even register with me.
