I spend a lot of time watching FoxNews to get a general sense of what Republicans think and I've been very surprised to see that most of the credit is going to Pres. Bush for the capture of Bin Laden and some of them are acting as if Obama "got lucky". Now I know Hannity and his crew aren't really an objective source but Rumsfeld stated that Obama needed to give Bush "credit where credit is due". WTF? |
Hahahahahahahahaha!! There is no spin they can put on this. They didn't do it and Obama did. That's all. Anything else just makes them look as petty as they are. |
Laura Bush: George, can you open this jar of mayo?
George: Sure, hon! Mission accomplished! {grunt, groan, grunt} George: It's not that important if I get this jar open. We'll eat mustard from now on. {Laura hands jar to Barack Obama} Obama: {pop!} Here you go. George: Well I loosened it! |
It would be interesting to note if there was a change in tactics during the 10yr search for UBL. If not, then credit really doesn't go to either President, goes to the troops on the ground and the intel community for searching for and eventually finding the guy.
Easy to place credit on the man in the Oval Office, but unless he played a specific and direct role in the operation (other than simply authorizing the final kill order), it's hard to give him all the credit regardless of political party. |
The President or former should not take credit for this, it is the people who worked behind the scenes who will never ask for thanks for doing their job that deserve the credit. |
Yes there was a definite change. Obama, with great controversy, started taking action within Pakistan. And regarding the operation itself, he put troops on Pakistani soil in a raid where they did not have confirmation that Bin Laden was even there, which was a huge risk. |
It's an honor to make your acquaintance, President Bush. |
If the President can't claim credit for a successful military action, exactly what CAN a president take credit for? Handing out food stamps efficiently? |
If the mission had resulted in horrendous Black Hawk Down scenario, everyone would be blaming POTUS. Similar scenario torpedoed Jimmy Carter. Maybe you're too young to remember... |
Obama made the decision. Bush can have his E for effort, and probably an A for his behavior since Obama took over. Whatever spin the GOP is putting on this is not uniform, and Bush has had no part in it.
Rush Limbaugh was very complimentary ... with total irony: http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2011/05/02/limbaugh-thank-god-obama-bin-laden_n_856425.html. Then he got upset when several news sites took him seriously. I wonder whether they missed hs irony, or chose to ignore it just to piss him off. |
Exactly. Add to that Obama's about face on the practice of torturing prisoners. As virtually ever expert on the subject attests to, torture does not work. There are much more effective methods to get information from prisoners, methods that don't compromise our moral authority. It's actually amusing to hear those Bush advisors try to spin this Obama success as a validation of Bush's torturing prisoners. Um, nice try. |
In this country the military is not a branch of the government. Obama is in charge of the military and responsible for killing bin Laden. Good job, Obama!!! |
