How does Twain/Edison compare to Sandburg/West Potomac?

I have many friends who have sent kids to Sandburg/West Potomac and liked the schools. I know they are not highly regarded generally, but these families had success there. We can't quite afford even to buy in this neighborhood (looking for under 450,000), but think we might be able to afford something in Rose Hill. This neighborhood feeds to twain/edison and I know nothing about those schools. Anyone know if they are roughly the same quality as West Po? I've looked at the school "stats" but in my view they don't tell you much. I don't care how many people are in ESL or free lunch, I want to know if the school is safe and if the teachers are good (i.e. involved, motivated, good principal, extra-curricular activities, etc.).

Edison is one of the smaller HS in the county, has an IB program, is being totally refurbished & I've not heard of major problems, tho I don't have first hand info. Look across Franconia road in the Bush Hill & Brookland areas.
