Where can I find Japanese ingedients

Anonymous
DD loves miso soup. The recipe sounds easy but I can't find shirro miso paste or dahli anywhere. I've tried WF and Safeway no luck. There is an Asian market nearby but I think it's Chinese. Rockville area preferred.

Do you have Lotte or Q Mart?

I drive to H-Mart in Wheaton for my Japanese ingredients.

Dashi is what you want. I got it in Bethesda at hinata and got one w/o MSG. Miso is more readily available (wf or other health food stores) . Get the refrigerated kind ( not the freeze dried powder.

The Chinese markets should have it as well.
We get all our miso at the Korean markets (Lotte, H-Mart, GrandMart)
There is also a small Japanese grocery store in Bethesda that sells sushi. They have it as well.
Most chain stores now carry the Eden brand, I've seen it at Whole Foods and Safeway up in Germantown.

My favorite side dish is a mix of miso paste and crushed ginger ontop of baked sweet potato cubes.

Pp here- wf may have dashi. If you asked for dahli they may have said they did not carry it. Shiro miso is something the wf by me has- near the tofu products I think.

Dashi would be the base, but you still need to mix in miso paste.
