Has anyone ever had their picture book published?

Now that DC2 sleeps a tiny bit more (but not through the night yet), my long-dormant creativity is slowly waking up.

I am going to create a new picture book, mostly for my children's enjoyment. DC1 really enjoyed the first one.
Now if I can get either of them published, that would be huge fun as well!

Anyone has any insight on the mysterious process of preparing a manuscript (if that is the term for a pic book) for review and the process of knocking on doors?

I don't think it happens like this anymore. Not to be discouraging but publishers go with big names because in today's market they need to make sure that they will actually sell the books they print. A picture book with Michelle Obama or Madonna as it's credits with fly off the shelf long before Mrs. Creative Mom.

But try anyway! You never know! You could be that good to get past the front door!
