Nancy Pelosi, press conference, September 7, 2006:
[E]ven if [Osama bin Laden] is caught tomorrow, it is five years too late. He has done more damage the longer he has been out there. But, in fact, the damage that he has done ... is done. And even to capture him now I don't think makes us any safer. Nancy Pelosi, earlier today: The death of Osama bin Laden marks the most significant development in our fight against al-Qaida. ... I salute President Obama, his national security team, Director Panetta, our men and women in the intelligence community and military, and other nations who supported this effort for their leadership in achieving this major accomplishment. ... [T]he death of Osama bin Laden is historic.... hich can best be viewed as humane alternatives to torture, have been taken off the table. |
What is your point? That a politician changed their view based on who was in office? That's not newsworthy. |
maybe just a reminder what a partisan hack Pelosi is? |
Pelosi is the leader of Congressional Democrats. If she wasn't partisan, she should be fired. |
President Bush 2002: "Well, as I say, we haven't heard much from him. And I wouldn't necessarily say he's at the center of any command structure. And, again, I don't know where he is. I -- I'll repeat what I said. I truly am not that concerned about him."
Bush 2011: "“This momentous achievement marks a victory for America, for people who seek peace around the world, and for all those who lost loved ones on September 11, 2001... The fight against terror goes on, but tonight America has sent an unmistakable message: No matter how long it takes, justice will be done.” |
I think catching Bin Laden was a major accomplishment and our biggest victory against Al Qaida to date. I also think we're not any safer because we've caught OBL. These two things aren't contradictory in my mind though. Am I missing something? |
Well, we just seized pretty much all of the information and communication between Bin Laden and his organization. He doesn't use phones, so it will all be there on disks and paper. That will go a long way to helping us dismantle the organization. |
All depends on how much operational control bin Laden still had. |
